A great way to update your decore is with paint or wallpaper, but what if you could get the look of wallpaper just by using paint and a stencil? Yes, you CAN get the look of wallpaper without the fuss, mess and expense. First paint your room in the colour of your choice. Then line up a wallpaper stencil and, using a high-density paint roller rolled in a slightly lighter or slightly darker shade of the original paint colour with most of the paint then removed on a stack of paper towel, go over the stencil. Move the stencil, lining up registration marks or repeats and continue until the wall or the room is complete. You will be pleased with the result and will have no wallpaper to remove when you wish to redecorate.

Stencils are also a great way to update or co-ordinate your furniture and accessories. An inexpensive pillow cover can be stencilled with fabric paint to co-ordinate with other items in your decor or to add a punch of colour to an otherwise neutral palette. Stencilling a motif on a table or dresser can integrate it into your style. Stencil picture or mirror frames, curtains, throws, vases, etc. Create your own artwork using stencils. There is nothing to stop your creativity!
